We often neglect our feet. We stand/walk on hard floors and stuff our feet in shoes for most of the day. They hurt and ache and need some feel good footwork. Each of our feet are made up of a whooping 28 bones, 30 joints and over 100 muscles, tendons and ligaments. No wonder it’s so important to take care of them and get professional footwork. But let’s face it, most of us probably don’t think about our feet…until they hurt. We tend to take them for granted, but like other parts of our body they can get tired, overused, sore, and can use some attention. And here are 5 reasons why your feet need a professional massage every once in a while.

         1. Foot Pain can lead to many other problems

Foot pain can quickly lead to other issues and cause pain in other areas of your body. If your foot hurts, you change the way you stand, walk, and move. Those changes affect your legs. When your legs hurt, you make more changes in what you do, which affects your hips, then your back and even your neck. Massage provides relief from Plantar Fasciitis and other common foot pain. Most muscles that move your foot start in your calf, so relieving foot pain can also reduce calf pain.

        2. Activities on your feet affect other joints in your body

Feet play a big part in exercise and fun activities. We use our feet for yoga and fitness classes, hiking, climbing, kickboxing, and dance – not to mention hauling all of the necessary equipment around. All of the leg joints are affected by the feet. Joints are placed under pressure from the impacts of these activities. Muscles, ligaments and bones twist and pull joints during exercise and activities.

       3. Use of uncomfortable footwear

We squeeze our feet into uncomfortable shoes or boots. Sometimes it may be for the sake of fashion, such as high heels. Other times work footwear is uncomfortable. Sandals may be more comfortable but they might not provide the support our feet need.

    4. Your feet take daily poundings

Feet take a real pounding since they support all the body weight along with the extra force from exertion of walking and running. At home we walk around to take care of our place, our family, and our belongings. We shop, stand chatting with a friend, stand in lines, and walk around doing errands. We cook, do laundry, clean and put things away. Some of us make multiple trips up and down stairs every day. Yard work and home maintenance keeps us on our feet as well. Some may do extra walking for exercise or from an inconvenience, or run to make it somewhere on time. Some jobs involve being on our feet most of the day. Often it is on hard floors or rough terrain.

   5. Professional foot massages feel amazing

A foot massage by a professional is probably the most relaxing thing ever! You get lay on heated table in a zen environment and bliss out. A professional can work the muscles in the feet between all those bones and joints, making the foot more flexible.  Relieving foot pain allows your muscles and joints to be in their proper positions with less pressure on them.
